Adequate and Affordable Housing
Decent housing is a fundamental human right.
Building safer homes and healthier living conditions.
Habitat considers decent housing to be a fundamental human right. We have partnered with families to build, rehabilitate, and repair over 40,000 homes, improving the physical and environmental living conditions of family members.
Within the context of a society, the impact of these houses stretches from family members to neighbors, relatives, and friends through shared amenities such as water and sanitation facilities.
Habitat for Humanity Uganda has integrated inclusive facilities in the construction of houses to enable people living with disabilities to have access. Additionally, we are leading efforts towards promoting appropriate low-cost housing technologies.

Expanding supply requires systems-level action.
Nationally, increasing building costs from the rising price of land, labour, and materials hamper efforts to expand the supply of affordable housing. HFHU is engaging the private sector, especially those in financing and manufacturing, to consider affordable housing.
Other efforts focus on housing microfinancing and market systems driven products and services. HFHU, in close collaboration with Habitat's Terwilliger Centre for Innovation in Shelter (TCIS) and partners, continues to apply integrated responses and concerted actions that connect planning, financial mechanisms, and regulatory frameworks.
This work focuses on stimulating collective action to achieve market-based affordable housing.
